Two men were arrested in Northern Ireland today after the seizure of cannabis with a street value of several million pounds.

Two men were arrested in Northern Ireland today after the seizure of cannabis with a street value of several million pounds.

The seizure - the largest in the North - was made in Co Down during a joint operation by the Police Service of Northern Ireland and officers from the Revenue and Customs Service.

A police spokesman said: "Several tonnes of cannabis with an estimated street value of several million pounds was seized at premises in Newtownards today.

He described the seizure as "highly significant" and the largest ever of the drug in the North.

The arrests and seizure came as part of a drive by the Organised Crime Task Force to crack down on illegal drugs in Northern Ireland.
