Two held after west Belfast sectarian riots

Two men were arrested for riotous behaviour after rival gangs of nationalists and loyalists clashed last night.

Two men were arrested for riotous behaviour after rival gangs of nationalists and loyalists clashed last night.

Motorists were urged to avoid the Broadway roundabout area in west Belfast after a lorry was hijacked and set alight in nearby Glenmachan Street.

Police came under attack from stones and other missiles as they moved into the area to restore calm. But there were no injuries.

Two men were being questioned today about the disturbances which broke out shortly before midnight.
