Two plain clothes gardai were being treated in hospital early today after they were at tacked by a mob in the Blanchardstown area of north Dublin.

The gardai, who are attached to Santry station, were on duty in a car when they were set upon.

They radioed for assistance and were rescued by other, gardai.

Garda Headquarters in Dublin said last night one garda received a scalp injury and broken teeth and the other received head and leg injuries. Neither was believed to be seriously hurt.

A number of youths were arrested and were being held in Finglas and Blanchardstown stations.
