Two people in their sixties were killed in a car crash just outside Kilkenny city yesterday evening.

Two people in their sixties were killed in a car crash just outside Kilkenny city yesterday evening.

Two of three people who were travelling in the same vehicle were killed as a result of a collision which took place at Troyswood on the Kilkenny to Freshford Road, 2.5 miles outside the city.

The incident occurred when the vehicle and a second vehicle collided at about 6.45pm.

A 65-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene while a 61-year-old woman was later pronounced dead at St Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny.

A woman travelling in the same vehicle, along with two occupants of the second car, were also brought to St Luke’s, where they were being treated last night.

The road has reopened after a Garda forensic team examined the scene. Gardaí are asking witnesses to call them on the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111 or at Kilkenny Garda station on 056 777500.
