Two men have been arrested by gardai in Pearse St in connection with an assault on two Chinese men in Dublin's Temple Bar early this morning.

The two men have been detained under section four of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held for 12 hours.

The victims are believed to have been involved in a fight outside a nightclub on Fownes St at around 2 a.m.

They were taken to St James's Hospital, where one of the men, in his 50s, is said to be in a critical condition. The other man, in his 30s, was less badly hurt.

A racist motive is not suspected in the assault.
