Sligo gardai yesterday arrested two men including a Belfast man who was brought to Sligo General Hospital on Sunday with hand and face injuries six hours after a bomb partially exploded in Belfast city centre.

The Belfast man was arrested under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act after being discharged from hospital.

In the afternoon, gardai arrested a leading member of Republican Sinn Fein, from Co Donegal. It is understood this man, in his 60s, brought the Belfast man to Sligo hospital. Both men can be held for 48 hours.
