Two men appeared in court yesterday charged with robbing four Dublin brothels.

James Mulhall (29), Ardmore Walk, and Paul Draper (29), Fortunestown Close, both Tallaght, Dublin, were charged with robbing cash and mobile phones from the alleged brothels in Dublin between August and October.

Gardaí objected to bail because they believed both men would not turn up in court if released because of the seriousness of the charges, the weight of purported evidence and the likely sentence if convicted.

Garda Deirdre Conway said Draper had also failed to turn up in court on three previous occasions last year when he was admitted to bail. Mulhall had failed to turn up in court last Wednesday in relation to a separate charge.

Judge Bryan Smyth set their own bail at €500 each with independent sureties of €5,000 each.

The bail conditions are that they must observe curfews between 7pm and 8am, surrender their passports, not apply for any new travel documents, and sign on daily at their local Garda station.
