London - A young British engineer stood trial yesterday for murdering three people and injuring more than 100 in three London nailbomb attacks against gays and ethnic minorities last year.
In February, Mr David Copeland (24) from Hampshire pleaded guilty to the bombings and three counts of manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility but pleaded not guilty to murder.
State prosecutors from the Crown Prosecution Service rejected his plea and are pushing for a murder conviction at the Old Bailey.
The trial is expected to last up to three weeks.
