Trade with non-EU countries falls in November

The seasonally adjusted figures for exports fell to €2,675m in November from the October value of €3,042m, while imports fell to €1,503m from €1,588m.

The unadjusted exports to non-EU countries were valued at €2,790m in November 2001, 15 per cent lower than the €3,301m recorded in November 2000.

Imports were valued at €1,641m in November 2001, 20 per cent lower than the €2,065m recorded in November 2000.

For the first 11 months of 2001, exports rose 14 per cent, with exports to the US rising 12 per cent and exports of organic chemicals rising 23 per cent.

Imports decreased for the same period by 3 per cent. However imports from China and Canada have both increased by 25 per cent respectively.

Imports of medical and pharmaceutical products increased by 56 per cent while imports of telecommunications and sound equipment increased by 13 per cent. Imports of road vehicles decreased by 42 per cent.
