Two Australian tourists were attacked by a mob of stone-throwing youths in Nailor's Row area of Derry yesterday afternoon.

The women's ordeal began when they noticed their rented Fiat Punto had been vandalised. They called the police to report the damage but when the officers arrived on the scene they were greeted with a barrage of stones.

The two women had to seek shelter behind their rented car. They were later driven away in an armoured vehicle. Neither was injured in the attack and both have since left the city.

A brick was thrown through the back window of the rented car when a police officer was removing it. A police car also received some damage.
