John Toshack was today confirmed as new coach of Real Murcia following the sacking of Joaquin Peiro 24 hours ago.
The former Liverpool and Wales striker had been linked with a return to coaching in Spain with struggling side La Liga outfit after the club sacked their coach Joaquin Peiro yesterday.
Murcia, who were promoted after winning the Spanish Second Division last season, drew 2-2 with Celta Vigo at the weekend after trailing 2-0 but are eight points adrift of league safety.
Despite the fightback, the draw proved to be the final throw of the dice for Peiro, who took over from championship-winning coach David Vidal last summer.
Murcia president Jesus Samper then lined up former Real Madrid and Real Sociedad coach Toshack as a replacement.
