Three people were hospitalised yesterday morning following a collision between a Luas tram and a car on Dublin's north inner city.
The incident, which occurred at the junction of Benburb Street and Blackhall Place shortly before 7 a.m., involved an outward-bound tram and a car.
The occupants of the car, who had to be cut from their vehicle, suffered collarbone and rib injuries. Bloodstains were evident in the vicinity of the accident.
The driver of the tram was taken to hospital, and treated for shock. The tram was said not to be full at the time of the accident.
A spokeswoman for Connex, the company which operates the Luas, said: "This incident is certainly regrettable....The matter is under investigation by our incident team and the Garda."
Services between the city and Tallaght were disrupted for over an hour.
This is the latest in a number of collisions between trams and vehicles on the Red Line, but is the first in which anyone has been hospitalised.
