A 29-year-old Co Galway man, who, along with two other men, is charged with the aggravated sexual assault and rape of a mentally-handicapped girl, was further remanded in custody with consent to bail at Galway District Court yesterday.

The man, who cannot be named, is charged with 13 counts of rape, aggravated sexual assault and buggery involving the girl at two locations in Galway city two years ago. The other two accused, one from Cork and the other from Dublin, face similar charges.

In court yesterday, the Dublin man was sent for trial on five charges to the next sitting of the Central Criminal Court in Dublin. The Cork man, who is on remand in Cork Prison, was remanded in custody to appear before the court again on August 22nd.

Mr Adrian MacLynn, solicitor, for the Co Galway man, asked to have his case adjourned to consider the book of evidence. Judge Michael Connellan remanded the accused in custody to appear again on August 15th.
