Cork County Council yesterday warned that it will obtain a court injunction forcing Telecom Eircell to remove a mast erected without planning permission if the semi-state company does not remove the installation voluntarily.

According to a Cork County Council enforcement department spokesman, Eircell began construction work on the 90 metre mast at Kilnamartyra in mid-Cork over the weekend despite not having obtained planning permission. Eircell applied for planning permission to erect a latticework tower capable of carrying antennae and an equipment house at Rahoonagh East, Kilnamartyra on December 15th, but on February 11th, the council sought further information.
