A Dublin teenager who raped his six-year-old cousin will be sentenced on Friday at the Central Criminal Court.
The 15-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to raping his cousin, a boy, in a Dublin suburb on April 2nd, 2011.
Neither of the teenager’s parents, who are drug addicts, appeared in court and he was accompanied in the dock by a Health Service Executive (HSE) care worker. His defence counsel pleaded with the court not to impose a jail term and to allow him to get treatment in the community.
The prosecuting garda told the court the boy was raped in the bathroom of his home.
The victim’s brother knocked on the door during the incident but the teenager told him they were play-wrestling.
Pieter Le Vert, prosecuting, said the parents made a complaint to gardaí. He told gardaí he did not know why he did it. He had heard boys talking about sex in school, in relation to girls, adding he did not think anyone would find out about it.
Mr Justice Paul Carney registered the boy as a sex offender and said he would review psychological reports before sentencing. The teenager is now in the care of the HSE.
