THE Ulster Unionist Party deputy leader has claimed Sinn Fein is orchestrating a boycott of Protestant businesses across the North and has warned there could be retaliation.

Mr John Taylor said boycotts could be a "two edged sword". "Just as Roman Catholics are being organised by Sinn Fein to boycott Protestant businesses, so there is a rising campaign to organise a Protestant boycott of Roman Catholic businesses."

Mr Taylor congratulated church leaders for condemning the boycott of Protestant businesses by nationalists. However, he said the Confederation of British Industry and other business organisations had failed to show "firm leadership" by not speaking out adequately against the boycott.

There was also a "moral duty" on the SDLP to speak out and not "sit on the fence".
