Abuja - The Nigerian military ruler, Gen Sani Abacha, the architect of a peace plan that ended seven years of civil war in Liberia, yesterday urged the winner of the country's presidential election to unify the nation.
"I hope you will seize this opportunity which has been provided by the elections to unify the country once again and create an atmosphere of trust and confidence which cuts across every stratum of the Liberian society," Gen Abacha said in a congratulatory message to the President-elect, Mr Charles Taylor. - (AFP)
