Islamabad - The last major opposition group battling Afghanistan's Taliban said yesterday it had fought off a fresh assault by the Islamic militia north of the capital, Kabul.

Engineer Arif, spokesman for the opposition leader Ahmed Shah Masood, said his fighters had repelled the Taliban offensive in Kapisa province, some 130 km north-east of the capital.
