A typhoon in Taiwan today killed 14 people, most under mud and rock slides, and left at least 33 missing, officials said.

A typhoon in Taiwan today killed 14 people, most under mud and rock slides, and left at least 33 missing, officials said.

Most of the victims were in the eastern coastal county of Hualien, where Typhoon Toraji's eye hit land, officials at the Ministry of Interior's disaster centre said.

The eye of the typhoon has since left Taiwan and was heading north-northwest towards China at 17 kilometres per hour.
