Eight men arrested by British police investigating a suspected IRA plot to blow up power facilities in Britain were remanded in custody when they appeared at Belmarsh Magistrates' Court, London.

Before the court were Mr Martin Thomas Murphy (38), of Kerrykeel Gardens Mr Patrick Hugh Martin (34), of Twinbrook and Mr Francis Owen Rafferty (44), of Norglen Parade, Andersonstown, all Belfast Mr Donald Francis Gannon (33), of St Joseph's Place, Mr Gerald Thomas Hanratty (37), of West Road, and Mr John Patrick Crawley (39), of Rathfarnham, all Dublin Mr Robert Eoin Morrow (36), of Dundalk, and Mr Clive Peter Brampton (36), of Bromford, Birmingham.
