Green Party TD for Carlow-Kilkenny Mary White received an apology from the UCD Students' Union today after they misrepresented her views in an advert.

The item, which was headed "Attention all Leaving Certs", appeared in yesterday's Irish Times.

It listed responses to a survey of all TDs which the union had carried out regarding their position on the possible re-introduction of third-level payments.

In the advert, Ms White was listed as being "in favour of fees".

In a statement issued today, she reiterated her position as "opposed to third level fees".

"I very much regret that my view point has been misrepresented in this advertisement and in a press statement issued yesterday and I have been in contact with the UCD Student's Union to state as much," she said.

Following that statement, the student's union said a mistake had been made by Leinster House while it was collecting responses to the survey. It said it was connected by the switchboard to Fianna Fáil Senator Mary White instead of the Green Party TD "which is where the confusion arose"  and apologised for the misunderstanding.
