GALWAY'S annual earnings from its third level student population are more than half that from tourism, according to a study by the city's Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber's last economic estimates indicate that tourism was worth £180 million to the greater city area last year. But the third level student population of 12,000 at UCG and Galway RTC between them generated income of about £110 million, including college running costs, it says.
