The Minister for Health and Children, Mr Micheál Martin, has set up a steering group to develop the hospital based heart attack register, the Coronary Heart Attack Ireland Register or CHAIR.
A pilot project of CHAIR has been set up in the Southern Health Board region as part of the Government’s cardiovascular health strategy, Building Healthier Hearts. It will run for a year and then assessed before it is extended throughout the country.
The Steering Group will be chaired by Consultant Cardiologist, Dr Peter Kearney.
The register will be used for a pilot study of heart attack patients which was recommended in the Building Healthier Hearts strategy, published in 1999.
