A list of top-flight entertainers performed at last night's Meteor music awards in Dublin which aimed to raise £170,000 for an Aids charity.

A 3,500-strong audience attended the event in Dublin's Point Depot. Rock group U2 won the award for the Best Irish Band as well as the award for Best Selling Irish Rock Album and Best Irish Songwriter.

Christy Moore was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

The show - which went ahead in the face of a range of cancellations and postponements of other events because of the foot-and-mouth crisis - featured live performances by artists including Sinead O'Connor, David Gray and Emmylou Harris.
