There will be a concert at Slane Castle next year, it has been confirmed, and the headline act and date for the concert will be announced on Tuesday.

Speculation is rife that the spot will be filled by the The Rolling Stones, who could become the first act to headline Slane for a third time, having played in 1982 and 2007.

An alternative option could be Bon Jovi, who are regular visitors to Ireland and are poised to embark on their Because We Can world tour. They have yet to announce dates in Europe. They played two outdoor concerts at the RDS last year.

The Rolling Stones celebrated their 50th anniversary together with a concert in Paris for just 350 people on Thursday night. It was their first show in five years.

Tickets for that concert were just €15 but their two sold-out shows in the O2 in London next month have attracted criticism for the cost of tickets, which were priced between £106 (€131.88) and £406 (€505.16). The Rolling Stones will also be playing two shows in Newark, New Jersey, in December.
