The following statement was issued by the "National Executive 32 County Sovereignty Movement", dated September 8th, 1998:-

We welcome the conscientious announcement by Oglaigh na hEireann of a `complete cessation of all military activity'. The divisions and confusion in the extended Republican family caused by the acceptance of something less than British disengagement from Ireland is glaringly obvious.

Sovereignty as established by the Irish people continues to be ignored and the illegal claim to the six counties by the British government is perpetuated.

The role of the 32 County Sovereignty Movement, which was always separate and distinct from Oglaigh na hEireann, remains critical. Our Republican analysis, that the Stormont Deal was never intended by the British to be a transition to anything other than a prolonged British administration glossing over the sectarian system, is being borne out by events.

The British may hope that by co-opting some within the wider Republican family into accepting British sovereignty and places in the British administration, that they have secured their rule in Ireland.

We pledge to intensify our efforts to dash these hopes and to secure a just and lasting peace based upon Irish national sovereignty. We urge other Republicans outside the Stormont trap to meet and work in concert with us.

We press ahead with our submission to the United Nations where Ireland's declaration of Independence has been lodged and we hope that obstacles preventing us from addressing this issue will be removed.
