Aston Villa's unsettled central defender Gareth Southgate will put his plans for the future aside until after England's matches with Mexico and Greece.

Southgate has re-affirmed his desire to leave Villa and the player, who went on the transfer list nearly 12 months ago, has asked to be relieved of the captaincy.

Spurs are the latest club linked with Southgate, and reports have said Liverpool are also interested.

But the 30-year-old player, who wants a club that he feels can help him realise his ambitions in football, will not make any moves until after the World Cup qualifier in Athens on June 6th.

Southgate has been called up by Sven-Goran Eriksson for the first time after being injured for the friendly with Spain and not being considered match fit for the World Cup games with against Finland and Albania.
