Newcastle midfielder Nolberto Solano has pledged his future to the club, apparently scotching rumours that his departure is imminent.
The 26-year-old Peruvian has made himself a fixture in the United side since his Stg£2.5million move from Boca Juniors in August 1998 - but he is on a collision course with manager Bobby Robson over his international commitments.
Solano is in Lima for tonight's World Cup qualifier against Uruguay but will return for showdown talks with Robson who thought he had turned his back on European football at the end of last season and consequently awarded him a new, improved contract.
The United boss has ordered one of his most influential players to choose between club and country and has hinted he would be prepared to sell him if he fails to do so, with Spanish clubs Barcelona and Deportivo la Coruna reported to be ready to fight a Stg£10million battle for his signature.
But the man himself insists he has no intention of moving, and further, has committed himself to helping to bring the glory days back to Tyneside.
"I play for one of the biggest clubs in Europe, and we attract more than 50,000 fans for every home game despite the fact that we have not won the title for more than 70 years," he told the Newcastle-based Journal.
"Imagine what it would be like if we actually won a trophy. It would be great to be here when that happened and to play my part in entering the history books.
"I am very thankful to Newcastle for everything they have done for me since I arrived in England, and it is my duty to repay them with 100 per cent effort.
"For that reason, I am in no hurry to leave - and when I return to England this week I will be working even harder to achieve success."
