A Bohemians soccer player caught driving a stolen minibus has been given a chance of paying compensation to avoid a criminal record. Dublin District Court heard that Garreth O'Connor (19), of Navan Road, Dublin, was stopped at a Garda checkpoint at Cabra Road on February 28th, and the minibus was found to have been stolen. Garda Tom O'Brien said Barry McCormack (19), also of Navan Road, was in the passenger seat and the defendants claimed another man who had stolen the vehicle earlier had given them the keys.

Judge Miriam Malone adjourned the case to July 24th to allow O'Connor to pay £500 compensation and for McCormack to make a further contribution.
