Gardaí carried out a technical examination of the public foyer area of Westport Garda station yesterday following a smoke bomb incident in the early morning.
In the second such incident in eight months, a canister which emitted orange smoke was thrown into the public reception area of the building at about 1.45am. According to a station spokesman yesterday, minor damage was caused to the reception area. Nobody was injured.
Entrance to the station was gained through a side door for several hours yesterday as forensic officers carried out a technical examination. There were no arrests and the Garda spokesman said “all possibilities in the investigation” were being explored.
Last November, a smoke canister was also flung into the reception area of the station setting off fire alarms.
