Israeli troops have arrested six wanted Palestinians, including a local leader of the Islamic Jihad.

About 15 Israeli tanks pushed into the town of Arraba, 10 kms south-west of Jenin, and arrested Mr Tarek Qaadan, the political head of Islamic Jihad in the Jenin district at his house.

Mr Mohammed Shebani, an activist from the group, was also arrested in Arraba.

A third activist from the radical group, Allah Saadi, was arrested in Jenin refugee camp.

Two other wanted Palestinians were arrested by the border police, one in Hajja village west of Nablus, and a second in Anata village near Jerusalem, the army said.

In Hebron, the army said it arrested Mr Raed Azmi Shweiki, a wanted operative from Hamas.
