A convicted killer with a "shocking record" who was twice found drunk in Tallaght, Co Dublin, had his case remanded for a pre-sentence report in Tallaght District Court.

Mark McCowan (30), with an address at Knockmore Crescent, Tallaght, pleaded guilty to public drunkenness at Super Valu, Belgard Square, on November 8th, 2006, and at the Square car park on September 7th, 2006.

Sgt Bernard Jones said that at 8.30pm on September 7th, gardaí had found McCowan in a drunken state in the Square. McCowan had been so drunk that he had been unable to support himself. Sgt Jones said that on November 8th, at 7.45pm, gardaí had responded to a complaint about a drunk carrying a can of beer near Supervalu.

Sgt Jones said McCowan became abusive when the gardaí talked to him and the garda had to hold him up.

McCowan's solicitor, Gráinne Malone, said the second incident was a few weeks after McCowan's brother died in Tallaght hospital from a blood clot.

Sgt Jones said McCowan had 26 previous convictions. At Kilmainham District Court on May 11th 2006, he had received two months for breaching the peace.
