Shelbourne football club today said they expected to be back playing at their home ground, Tolka Park, as early as next week considering the flood damage was not as bad as first feared.
That said, the oldest football club in the country suffered extensive damage when the nearby Tolka River burst its banks in the north of Dublin City almost a fortnight ago.
The ground, like many areas of Drumcondra and Phibsborough, was under several feet of water at one point. This caused damage to the pitch, club offices, gym and bars within the complex.
With water levels now subsided, Shels' hope to play their eircom Premier League game with Derry City next Monday if their floodlights are repaired in time.
Shelbourne last played a home game at the start of the month when they lost to Shamrock Rovers.
