The Sinn Féin ardfheis which takes places this weekend in Dublin will be the biggest ever, party sources predict.

More than 2,000 delegates and visitors will attend the three-day event at the RDS, Sinn Féin officials have claimed. However, no important decisions on the Northern peace process will be taken at the conference.

Most of the debates will focus on social and economic issues instead. The ardfheis opens tomorrow evening. The clár, which has been seen by The Irish Times, allows for a two-hour debate on the peace process on Saturday morning.

No decision on whether to sign up to the Police Service of Northern Ireland will be made at the conference. It is understood a special ardfheis will be held for a detailed discussion in May.
