THE following is the statement issued by the president of Sinn Fein, Mr Gerry Adams, in response to statements by the Taoiseach, Mr Bruton, on June 25th, 1996.
I have given Mr Bruton frank, honest and clear responses to the questions he has put to me. I am still perplexed as to the rationale behind these questions. I can only form a judgment that he has decided that the peace process cannot be restored. I hope this is not the case, but if it is then I believe he is making a huge mistake.
Regardless of the difficulties which all of us face, it is our duty band responsibility to seek to bring about an inclusive peace settlement.
Despite his protestations, Mr Bruton has closed the door on Sinn Fein. This is following his own party political instincts and it is not good enough.
