A Sinn Fein councillor was in court yesterday arising out of disturbances during an Apprentice Boys parade on the Ormeau Road in Belfast earlier this month.

Mr Sean Hayes (39) was charged with hindering the parade by sitting on the road. Mr James Davidson (31), from Upper Springfield Street, Belfast, faced a similar charge.

A defence solicitor, Mr Joe McVeigh, told Belfast Magistrates Court that both defendants were denying the charge and, "They wish to state that any offence that was committed was by the RUC against them."

The men were remanded on bail until October 15th.
