A priest who was convicted last year of sexually abusing two young girls in Derry will not return to the city when he is released from prison tomorrow. Father Bernard Gallagher was sentenced to 18 months last December for indecently assaulting the children 35 years ago when they were aged 10 and 12.
The judge described the abuse as "offensive and abhorrent". Relatives of the victims had expressed concern about Father Gallagher going back to Derry on his release.
The Catholic Church has said Father Gallagher is truly repentant. He will be going to the diocese of Southwark in England.
