Former champion Monica Seles today withdrew from the women's singles at the French Open because of injury.
The number six seed, winner at Roland Garros in 1990, 1991 and 1992, looked out of form last week when she lost in the first round of the Madrid Open to Paraguayan Rossana de los Rios.
Her withdrawal means that another American, Meghann Shaughnessey comes in as the 16th seed.
Slovak player Karol Kucera, who last year eliminated title-holder Andre Agassai, is out of the men's singles.
