Financially troubled computer game companySega Corporation will cut its workforce by almost 12per cent following the firm's decision to pull out of the Dreamcast game console production.
After vowing last month to concentrate on developing moreprofitable software for its console rivals, Sega will trim itsworkforce through voluntary redundancies in divisions related to theDreamcast business.
"We judged a further slimming was necessary mainly over thedepartments which are directly or indirectly affected by thewithdrawal from the Dreamcast hardware production," the company saidin a statement.
The human resources and administrative staff at its headquarterswill be cut by 300 to a total of 700 by the beginning of April, aSega spokesman said.
Sega currently has a total workforce of around 2,600, thespokesman said, adding 1,600 were employed in software research anddevelopment and amusement facilities management.
