Security was tightened at the venue of the 21st Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia following the terrorist attacks on the United States, an official announcement said today.

"In view of the situation overseas, security will be tightened at the games venue and the press center," an announcement posted at the media center said.

Security people "have been instructed to make random checks on all personnel at all these venues," it added.

More than 4,500 athletes from 10 countries in Southeast Asia are participating in the 10-day competition now on its eighth day.
