Police, Coastguards and mountain rescue teams were today continuing the search for a 22-year-old German backpacker who went missing while on a coastal walk.

About 60 rescuers returned to the Co Donegal village of Glencolmcille and the nearby coast in the search for Ms Constanze Czerwinske.

But a police spokeswoman said: "The weather forecast is bad so that may hamper the search efforts."

Ms Czerwinske, who was travelling alone, told other backpackers on Tuesday that she was going walking.

The alarm was raised when she failed to return to the hostel, where she had left her belongings.

A search began amid fears that she could have been swept out to sea or fallen from a cliff - the nearby Slieve League sea cliffs are the highest in Europe.

It is understood that Ms Czerwinske was last seen walking along Glen Head at 6.45 p.m. on Tuesday.

Rescuers from Donegal Mountain Rescue and Malin Head Coastguard joined an Air Corps helicopter in the search.

Fifteen search teams, made up of a total of 60 police and local residents, were focusing on a stretch of coastline between Port and Silver Strand.

Ms Czerwinske arrived in Ireland on June 15th and in Glencolmcille on June 17th, and booked into a local backpackers' hostel.
