A JOINT Garda and Army search of land near the Co Louth Border with Co Armagh will resume at first light this morning after a further arms find yesterday afternoon.

A cylinder bomb recovered was detonated in a controlled explosion last night. An amount of bomb-making equipment and four bags of explosive materials were recovered with it at Ballybinaby near Hackballscross.

This is the fifth find of IRA arms at Ballybinaby since the beginning of October.

Chief Supt Al McHugh said the cylinder bomb was in poor condition, and the indications were that it had been in place for some time. He said the items recovered during the ongoing programme of searches were suitable for use in the construction of bombs.
