Seamus Stack, from Drumcollogher, Co Limerick, has successfully combined a career in farming with community activities and a pivotal role in local business development. Full-time work on his farm in the Golden Vale hasn't stopped him throwing his energies into the promotion of his home town. He was instrumental in setting up the Drumcollogher Co-op Mart, which has proved a major catalyst for growth in the the region.

Working with the local community council, he succeeded in attracting new businesses to the town, such as Dresden Porcelain. He was also involved in restoring the National Dairy Co-op museum and in building a local heritage centre, a day-care centre and sheltered housing for the elderly.

In addition, Stack helped establish Joe Quaid Furniture, which employs 10 people, and Drum Furniture, which exports to the American market.
