The North's Deputy First Minister, Mr Seamus Mallon, last night led an SDLP delegation that met the International Body on Decommissioning. Speaking afterwards, he acknowledged that the arms issue was important but said it should not be allowed to dominate or stall the political process. "I would ask the Ulster Unionist Party to look at the absolute position that it has adopted and ask itself is that the way to go about getting a resolution of a problem that can be intractable, or it can be soluble. The job of the political process is to make it soluble."
