The SDLP group on Magherafelt District Council in Co Derry has scrapped its controversial move to strip the Ulster Unionist vice chairman, Mr Bertie Montgomery of his civic duties for taking part in a road block in support of Drumcree stand off participants in July.

At last night's monthly meeting Cllr Pat Kilpatrick announced he was withdrawing his motion in view of "the spirit of accommodation which has existed in the council" over the past month.
