Scottish Labour leader Wendy Alexander should be suspended from the Scottish Parliament for one day for failing to declare donations to her leadership campaign, Holyrood’s Standards Committee ruled today.

The recommendation to exclude Ms Alexander for one sitting day was agreed by the committee after a three-hour meeting.

Parliament is now in summer recess and will have to wait until September to vote on the recommendation.

Ms Alexander, the MSP for Paisley North, had said clerks to the standards committee wrongly told her it was unnecessary to declare donations.
