London - British scientists are to carry out a three-year study into the artificial sweetener aspartame, marketed as NutraSweet, which has been dogged by allegations that it is linked to brain tumours.

NutraSweet is a unit of the Monsanto firm. The parent company said on July 1st it was planning to sell its NutraSweet artificial sweetener and biogum businesses.
