Schools to get €2,000 to upgrade PE equipment

Every primary school in the State is to receive €2,000 to upgrade sports equipment, it has been announced.

Every primary school in the State is to receive €2,000 to upgrade sports equipment, it has been announced.

Minister for Education Mary Hanafin said today the package, worth €6.5 million, will be paid out to 3,200 primary schools in the coming weeks.

"This special PE equipment grant is being issued to all primary schools, as a once-off measure, to enable schools improve the PE facilities in their school," she said.

The Minister said that the funding is being made as part of this Government's continued commitment to modernise facilities in schools throughout the country. She said she expected to announce a PE equipment grant for post-primary schools in the coming months.

Schools will receive funding in the coming weeks along with their Minor Works Grant payment.
