Saudi Arabia's intelligence chief has denied reports that his country have proposed an amnesty for Iraqi generals close to President Saddam Hussein to encourage a coup against him.

"This talk is totally baseless. The kingdom would not interfere in the internal affairs of Iraq and has no contacts with Iraqis inside or outside," Prince Nawaf bin Abdul-Aziz told the daily Okaz newspaper on Saturday.
