The salmon catch in the North Western Regional Fisheries Board area this year was 72,531, an increase of 6 per cent on last year, the highest recorded since 1985. Drift nets took 70 per cent, other commercial methods accounted for 8 per cent and anglers caught 22 per cent, up from 14 per cent last year.
